In the United States, TCE is used as an industrial solvent in vapor degreasing of metal parts, an ingredient in adhesives, paint removers, correction fluid and a dry cleaning/spot remover. When using TCE, many workers are exposed to unsafe conditions, such as improper ventilation. In addition, it has become apparent that many companies have used TCE in unsafe ways, putting their workers at risk for serious damage to their health. Companies and governmental agencies have also been negligent in releasing TCE into the atmosphere in the form of a vapor, and not storing and disposing of TCE properly, where it can enter the water supply of unsuspecting towns and cities.
