One of the reasons we feel so strongly about the Motrin litigation – is because we know that parents who are simply going to stores that sell these products to get the necessary medication for their son or daughter, without a prescription because these are over-the-counter drugs, do not have the proper information to make an informed decision. If ibuprofen is not as safe as acetaminophen, the Tylenol product, we want them to know that so they can make an informed decision. It is not rocket science for a mom or pop to make a decision about buying a safe drug over a less safe drug. Of course, they are going to make the decision to purchase the safest drug when they are both designed to have the same effect. And make no mistake about why we are so incensed about the Motrin product. The manufacturer was aware that the kinds of illnesses, diseases and consequences were much more dramatic than the original ailment they were designed to address. In other words, the drug was designed to lessen pain and lessen flu symptoms at the expense of causing a life-threatening disease in the processes. Acetaminophen does not have these side effects. Therefore, the superior drug for utilization for a minor’s pain, headache and flu, is acetaminophen and parents all over the world should know that information so they can make an informed decision for their children.
