Another drug which is designed to treat depression, Paxil, is manufactured by Glaxo Smith Kline’s laboratories, and has been associated with very substantial birth defects. This drug is one that clearly crosses the placental barrier and causes wide-ranging birth defects and physical anomalies of a very horrific proportion. Besides the teratogenic effect, which has resulted in horrific birth defects, there have been reports of suicidal ideation, which Paxil takers have experienced. What the public needs to know about Paxil is that there is a wide range of other, less dangerous drugs that they need to consider when they are making the choice as to how to treat their depression. Certainly women of childbearing years, or who are at risk for pregnancy, need to avoid Paxil at all costs. Those individuals who have taken Paxil, and experienced birth defects, need to consider their legal options for which we are well suited to advise them.
