There's a huge cost that people don’t realize behind the scenes of a toxic mold case of this magnitude. Obviously it means that you've got to eradicate the mold from your living environment, but more often than not, it will also mean that you've got to leave your living environment. Abandoning your apartment, or home, or condominium, or wherever you're living, is a great personal cost. It's disrupting to the schools that your children may go to; it's disruptive for your friends; it's also very disruptive to your daily routine. All of this while being physically ill, and if you're used to a very active lifestyle, it's very overwhelming. Imagine the cost alone of moving out and abandoning - abandoning - everything that was in your house. Unfortunately, all of the clothing and the furniture in the house are porous so they absorb the mycotoxins and their spores. And, although some materials can be cleaned, the problem is that sensitized people are still susceptible to the spores even after cleaning. The only way to really avoid exposure again once you've become sensitive and it's made you sick, is to abandon your property and abandon your possessions and start over. I mean, not taking any of the pictures that were valuable in your life or your clothing and starting from scratch. This is very difficult financially, it's very difficult emotionally, and these are things that are not commonly understood, but comprise the cost to the family. At that time the family needs to find an advocate, such as myself, to take the case on a contingency basis to fight for them. So it's very overwhelming for these families. And most of them will not get any relief; most of them cannot find attorneys willing to take their cases. And it's very sad that these families are devastated.
